Technology Career Outlook

Job prospects for IT and technology school graduates are excellent, with one of the highest rates of employment growth for all industries, according to the US Labor Bureau. Overall employment is expected to grow between 30% and 50% over the next 10 years.

The rapidly increasing presence of electronics and Web technology in the business world is one reason for the rapid growth, as more businesses make use of electronic databases, Web-based tools and Internet/telephony combination packages. Along with this growth comes increased need for information security specialists, technical support personnel and training specialists.

Web administrators and developers will be in particularly high demand as businesses move transactions online and as other business functions become more Web based. Internet security analysts will also remain in high demand due to the combination of increases in cybercrime and in Internet business overall.

The best job opportunities will exist for IT professionals with a technology degree and certification. Adequate training is important in terms of both initial employability and continuing expertise, as IT and technology in general are rapidly developing fields.
